Description
Stena Line, a Swedish ferry operator, announced its plan to dismiss up to 950 employees in Sweden. The number of passengers has decreased rapidly due to travel restrictions that many countries have set in order to stem the outbreak of coronavirus. The company estimates that the outbreak will have long-term effects on passenger water transport and the number of passengers on its ferries is unlikely to recover by the summer holiday season. The dismissals will affect personnel working on all the nine ferries that registered under the Swedish flag as well as white-collar workers based in Sweden. Two of Stena Line’s affiliate companies, Stena Line Travel Group and Retail&Food Services will also be affected by the dismissals.
