European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Valmet, a Finnish supplier of technologies and services for the pulp, paper and energy industries, announced its plans to dismiss 78 employees by the end of 2021. This is due to the company’s decision to move the production of paper machine clothing and filter fabrics from its manufacturing unit, located in Tampere, Finnland, to Portugal by the end of 2021. Valmet argues that apart from the dismissals, the company may need to replace some full-time contracts with part-time arrangements. The company argues that delocalisation of these functions is needed in order to safeguard effectiveness. According to the company's media release, affected workers will receive re-employment support and education allowances.
The Fabrics unit has currently 500 employees.
