European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Pilot Services Sweden is one of the four subsidiaries of the Norwegian Group that have filed for bankruptcy in Sweden and Denmark. As a result of this, 250 pilots will lose their jobs in Sweden. These pilots are employed by the company but work on Norwegian’s planes.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries have set travel restrictions that have had a significant impact on the volumes of air passenger travel. Norwegian has cancelled almost all its flights.
According to Norwegian Group, the strict regulation regarding temporary layoffs in Sweden, combined with a slow reaction on the behalf of the Swedish state in terms of support measures, have left the Group no choice but to file bankruptcy for Pilot Services Sweden. The Infrastructure Minister of Sweden argues that Norwegian Group seems not to have applied for support measures offered by the state.
