European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The Portuguese subsidiary of Preh, the German producer of electronic components, has decided to terminate the contracts of 500 temporary workers. The measure is motivated by reduction of the production due to the consequences of the COVID-19 crisis.
According to the trade union, more than 50% of the workforce of the company is employed on a temporary basis, with precarious working conditions. Some of those workers that will be dismissed have been working for Preh Portugal for more than two years, performing permanent tasks. Most of the affected workers are young people.
The trade union guarantees that several complaints have already been sent to the Authority for Labour Conditions, but no reply has been received so far.
