Description
The Commercial Court of Paris has given the go-ahead for the takeover of the Famar Lyon site by Benta Pharma Industries. The buyer announces the safeguarding of 115 employees out of 240 (at the time it was put up for sale, the site employed 322 people).
There should be prospects for new hires in th future; by 2026, the group plans to employ a total of 270 people on the site, where medicines such as Nivaquine (chloroquine sulphate) are produced. The investment amounts to €42 million over six years. 'It's always better than liquidation', says Famar Lyon's CGT representative. Still, there will be more redundancies than employees maintained. Keeping a pharmaceutical activity in Saint-Genis-Laval was our battle horse'. In particular, the site is specialised in the manufacture of medicines for bipolar people.
