European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
DHL Supply Chain, the global contract logistics firm is planning to cut 2,200 jobs from its workforce providing logistics services to Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) plants in the UK. The proposed job cuts are expected to affect both directly employed and agency staff.
A representative of DHL Supply Chain said the restructure was prompted by the 'unprecedented impact of the Covid-19 pandemic', which had caused difficulties for the automotive sector globally. A spokesperson for JLR emphasised the aim of the restructure was to guarantee the long-term sustainability of their business.
A representative of the trade union Unite said many of the redundancies were unrelated to the reduction in the volume of car production and added that JLR had 'a moral duty to ensure that workers are treated fairly' during the restructuring process.
JLR has plants across the United Kingdom, including in Halewood and Solihull. The news about the current restructure comes just weeks after the announcement that 1,000 agency jobs were at risk at JLR in the UK.
