European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
HUS, the Helsinki University Hospital, has concluded co-operation negotiations. As a result, it will lay off 150 employees working at HUS Asvia, a unit providing supporting services for the hospitals and other healthcare units operated by HUS.
According to HUS, these lay-offs are needed since the introduction of an automatic speech recognition system has reduced the need to process text manually. The new system converts directly medical doctors’ speech into text and it can be now used in 80% of the cases. This has significantly reduced the need for employees who manually translate doctors speech into text.
HUS has several hospitals and other healthcare units in the Uusimaa-region.
