European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The London-based group Ferroglobe announced a reorganisation plan in France affecting 350 employees of the subsidiary FerroPem which specialises in the manufacture of silicon and foundry products, mainly for the automotive industry.
The Alpine valleys of Tarentaise and Romanche are particularly affected by the reorganisation. The Ferropem factories in Château-Feuillet à La Léchère (Savoie) – employing 221 people – and Livet-et-Gavet (Isère) – employing 129 people – will be closed.
Several parliamentarians and elected officials from the Sovoie region appealed to the Government condemning the restructuring, while the unions intend to challenge the company's decision before the 'Tribunal de Grande Instance' of Chambéry (Savoie).
Ferroglobe, one of the world's leading producers of silicon metal and silicon-based alloys, employs nearly 1,000 people in France at seven sites.

The job protection plan (PSE) launched in 2021 at Livet-et-Gavet (Isère) has been finally canceled and the 129 jobs have been saved. Furthermore, 25 employees will be hired.

The job protection plan (PSE) launched in 2021 by the Spanish-American group at Château-Feuillet site- the only one to produce calcium silicide (CaSi) in Europe- came to an end on Friday 1 April: no consensus has been reached on an alternative solution to the shutdown. However, a majority agreement with trade unions providing for 16 to 18 months of redeployment leave for the 221 employees of the plant was concluded on 30 March 2022 between the management of the group and the union representatives.

On 5 May 2021, the local employment authority in the Savoie department gave its greenlight to the redundancy scheme. A total of 221 employees will be laid off.
Updated 01/11/2023 The French Ministry of Labour has confirmed the decision of the Departmental Labour inspectorate to reject the economic grounds for the dismissal of around 20 protected employees of the FerroPem plant in Château-Feuillet in Savoie.
