German airline Lufthansa has announced that its low-cost Eurowings division will open its tenth base in Europe at the end of October 2021. This will create over 100 jobs at the Václav Havel Prague Airport. As of June 2021, it is still unclear when the recruitment will be finished.
Eurowings will deploy two Airbus A320s since its opening and will add another aircraft in summer 2022. The airline plans to offer low-cost direct flights to major European cities such as Barcelona, Milan or Copenhagen and to holiday destinations such as the Canary Islands.
The expansion plan has been welcomed by the management of the Prague Airport, as the aviation industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis.
