European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
US-based car manufacturer, Ford, has announced a restructuring plan to cut 3800 jobs from its global workforce. Job cuts will be targeted at product development and administration and Europe as part of a pivot to refocus on engineering expertise in USA. As part of the plan, 2300 jobs will be cut in Germany (Ford-2023-DE), 1300 in the United Kingdom and 200 jobs in various European countries. Ford states this move comes as demand for their cars has continued to slow and the pivot to electric vehicles will not require as much of a labour-intensive production process.
Trade Unions are surprised by the announcement as they believed job cuts were capped at 2500. The company has agreed with the internal Works Council that no compulsory redundancies will be made before the end of 2032 in Cologne and Aachen, Germany.
