Description
Online grocery delivery service, Gurkerl, has notified about 290 of 1000 employees for termination. The full number of direct dismissals is yet uncertain. As with the sites in Munich and Frankfurt, the logistics center at the site in Vienna Liesing will likewise be fully automated. According to Gurkerl spokesman Manuel Kalleder, the job cuts are a necessary step due to automation. The online supermarket is scaling back its expansion course at several locations. Newspapers report poor working conditions shared anonymously by employees.
Rewe supermarket BILLA immediately responded to the terminations and offered jobs to all employees who were notified for termination. In mid-November 2022, Billa opened a second online warehouse in Vienna Floridsdorf, next to Vienna Inzersdorf, where it is offering the jobs.
