European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The Finnish meat-processing company Atria has announced the closure of its poultry plant in Sahalahti (Pirkanmaa), as it will be moving poultry-related production to Nurmo (Etelä-Pohjanmaa). This closure is estimated to save Atria €5 million every year, and will leave all of the plant's 130 workers without work. The announcement came already in late 2022, when the cooperation negotiations had ended. The actual closure was scheduled for 2024 and will happen during the first part of the year.
According to the collective bargaining agreement for the meat sector in Finland, workers that have worked more than 12 years at the plant will be guaranteed wages by Atria for 6 months after the foreclosure announcement. Workers that have worked less than a year will be guaranteed 14 days of wages.
According to the company, all current employees at the plant will be offered an opportunity to move to Atria's other plants in Finland. A shop steward however commented on the offer, that quite few, probably less than 10, are likely to move.
Atria has a total of 3,700 employees in Finland.
