European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Haier Tech, a Chinese multinational home appliances and consumer electronics company announced that around 400 people would be laid off. The jobs will be cut off from Aricestii Rahtivani plant, near Ploiesti (Prahova County) where the company employs 988 people. According to the company’s announcement, the layoffs are due to the market contraction and the drop in demand in all categories - which persists as a consequence of the post-pandemic effect and the recent crisis in Europe and globally. The company intends to maintain more than 60% of its workforce, securing critical positions that will allow a rapid recovery in production as soon as market conditions allow.
Haier started producing refrigerators at the Prahova plant (63,000 sq.), the first in the European Union, at the end of 2021, after an investment of €70 million.
Listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SHA: 600690) since 1993, Haier Smart Home is present on all five continents with 25 industrial parks, 10 R&D centers and approximately 100,000 employees.
