Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
A subsidiary of UniCredit based in Vienna, UniCredit Services, is to be closed by the end of the year. All its 280 jobs will be lost.
The division in Vienna is going to be outsourced to Romania and Italy. Employees have been offered relocation options to Italy, and some have already transferred to the Bank Austria branch, while the remaining staff will remain until the end of 2024.
The company has registered the employees for dismissal in the early warning system of the Austrian Public Employment Service. The company's spokesperson stated that they are in dialogue with the works council.
According to a UniCredit spokesperson, UniCredit Services is an IT company that is being dissolved as part of the company's digital transformation, which aims to simplify processes, phase out legacy IT systems and shift to modern technologies and infrastructure.
