Description
Offshore drilling contractor Transocean is reducing its workforce in Norway by 150 to 160 employees, down from an initial forecast of 269. This staff reduction follows the reassignment of two rigs to Australia and one to Cyprus, leading to surplus staff. The reduction process has been managed in consultation with employee representatives, with efforts to reassign personnel to other rigs where possible. The handling of this downsizing has been viewed more favorably by trade union Safe, compared to previous efforts, with adherence to employment regulations and seniority considerations. Opportunities for affected workers in Norway are positive, with some finding employment with competitors. The remaining rigs in Norway are operational with long-term contracts, suggesting stability for the remaining workforce.
