European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Swedish-British pharmaceutical manufacturer Astra Zeneca has announced a layoff of 200 employees in Gothenburg, Sweden. The reason for the downsizing is described as part of a continuous review of Astra Zeneca’s operations, in Sweden and abroad, to ensure the right level of workforces.
The layoffs are reported to the Swedish Public Employment Service, but there are no specifications regarding what departments will be affected. A trade union representative for the Gothenburg establishment has confirmed that cooperation negotiations have been initiated.
According to its website, the company has over 76,100 employees worldwide. Approximately 7,800 of them are located in Sweden. In Gothenburg, Astra Zeneca employs 3,000 people.
