Description
Leoni Wiring Systems announced plans to dismiss 360 persons by the end of September 2024. The company is the Romanian subsidiary of the German Leoni group, which manufactures cables and harnessing, including for the automotive industry. The layoffs target the Leoni car wiring plant in Bistrita, which is also the largest employer in Bistrita-Nasaud county. At Bistrita plant the company has 3,600 employees.
The company representatives announced that in the economic context generated by the drastic drop in orders for electric vehicles, Leoni Bistrița is forced to take measures to consolidate and sustainably stabilize the operations of the Bistrița plants. The decision follows a detailed analysis of the current economic and operational situation around electromobility and after the company's management informed the trade union organization, it was decided to reduce the number of employees by up to 10% which is 360 employees.
The Leoni Group has been present in Romania since 2000, with 10 production units and around 12,000 employees
