Description
Auchan, the French multinational retailer, is cutting 2,400 jobs in a national internal restructuring due to economic difficulties following declines in sales and revenue. The restructuring will affect 784 out of 4,000 employees at its headquarters in Villeneuve-d'Ascq and Croix, which will be consolidated into a single site. Additionally, 915 store positions, primarily managerial roles, will be eliminated.
Additionally, the plan includes closing three storage facilities, impacting 224 employees, and ending home grocery deliveries. Four large stores, employing 266 workers in Clermont-Ferrand, Woippy (Moselle), Bar-le-Duc (Meuse), and Aurillac (Cantal), will also close. Six smaller neighbourhood stores will shut down, resulting in 200 job cuts. However, Auchan plans to create 319 new positions in central and logistical roles.
Auchan currently employs 53,000 people in France. Several prior restructurings were recorded ERM database, with, for instance, 124 job cuts in 2023 Auchan 2023 - FR. In 2020, the company underwent a similar restructuring, resulting in 1,475 job cuts and 977 job creations Auchan 2020 - FR.

The Lille Administrative Court has invalidated the Auchan Retail France group's job protection plan (PSE). The court found that the procedure for informing and consulting the social and economic committees had been influenced by a procedural irregularity. This decision does not mean that the dismissed employees will be rehired, but if it becomes final, it would allow employees to file claims for compensation.
Up to this present moment, according to Auchan, 320 employees affected by this PSE have been relocated to other sectors within the group.
