Description
Atacadão, a Brazilian subsidiary of the French Carrefour Group, recently eliminated 96 jobs in Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis) through voluntary departures. This reduction accompanied the replacement of a Carrefour hypermarket with an Atacadão store, part of Carrefour's strategy to introduce its low-cost brand in targeted low-income neighbourhoods in France. According to trade unions, 240 employees remain in the new store. This workforce reduction has drawn criticism and highlighted Carrefour’s difficulty in establishing Atacadão.
Several prior restructuring activities by Carrefour are documented in the ERM database. In 2023, Carrefour reduced its workforce by 900 to 1,000 jobs through a voluntary redundancy plan Carrefour 2023- FR.
