European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The paper manufacturer Hylte Paper announced in March 2025 that it will reduce its workforce by about 20%, or 60 workers, from its production plant in the western region of Halland.
The employer, trade union, and local council members all state that the reason for the dismissals is the continued high electricity prices in southern Sweden. Sweden has four electricity price regions, where the northern regions have historically paid much less for electricity than the south, due to the majority of electricity being produced in the northern regions. According to a councilman, the paper plant would have paid around SEK 200 million (€ 18,2 million) less if it was located in a more northern region.
