The French cleaning agency Sodexo announced in March of 2025 that all 152 cleaners employed in Skellefteå will lose their job following the business closure of a major client. The cleaning company was contracted to clean the premises of the Skellefteå battery manufacturer Northvolt, which announced its bankruptcy on March 12th, 2025, leading to the layoff.
The ending of the Northvolt business operations may also affect the Sodexo cleaning staff at the Stockholm and Västerås premises. The Building Maintenance Workers' Union stated that they looking at the possibility of relocating the workers within the company.
