European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
In March 2025, the US electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, operating in the automotive sector, announced the transfer of 300 temporary workers to permanent, full-time positions at its Grünheide plant in Brandenburg, mainly in the production unit.
The measure, effective from April, accompanies the production ramp-up of the new Model Y. According to the IG Metall trade union, the new hires are insufficient to address the chronic understaffing and high workload. The union is calling for longer breaks and better staffing levels in shifts.
Tesla employs around 11,000 people in Grünheide, where it runs its only European production facility for electric vehicles. The most recent announcement of 400 job cuts at the Grünheide plant occurred in April 2024 Tesla Germany 2024 - DE.
