Description

The German discounter retail chain Kodi, which operates in the household and drugstore retail sector, has announced a total of 520 job cuts as part of insolvency proceedings. The closure of 80 stores nationwide will result in the loss of 480 jobs in the stores and 40 jobs at the head office in Oberhausen (North Westphalia).

The reason for the restructuring is an impending insolvency due to falling customer demand and a sharp rise in costs. A consortium of investors is taking over 150 of the 230 branches, which will save around 1,200 jobs. The sell-off in the remaining stores will run until the end of June 2025.

The job cuts will mainly take the form of redundancies.

Kodi was founded in 1981, is based in Oberhausen and employed around 1,700 people before its insolvency.
