Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze, a German supplier of electronic wire harnesses and components for the automotive industry, announced its intention to dismiss 139 persons by the end of June 2025. The collective redundancy will be at Targu Jiu (Gorj County). Management cited the increase of the production and labour costs as factors that negatively affected the company's performance.
The company had recently announced the dismissal of 676 persons at its plant in Drobeta Turnu Severin (Mehedinti County) Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze 2025-RO.
By 31 March 2025 the company had 486 employees at Targu Jiu.
In 2023, the last reported year, the company had a turnover of 955 million lei (approx. €191 million), a net profit of 38.9 million lei (approx. €7.78 million) and a workforce of 5,600 employees. According to the company announcement employees will benefit of social protection, including compensatory salaries, ranging from 3 to 10 wages.
The German company is owned by Japanese group Sumitomo Electric Industries.
