Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

The online grocery retailer Mathem has laid off 43 warehouse workers in Larsboda outside Stockholm in January 2025. The staff reductions are part of the company's restructuring measures, which have been ongoing since September 2024. The layoffs are a result of efficiency measures, causing a redundancy in the number of employees at the warehouse.
In September 2024, the company announced the closing down of two of its warehouses in Gothenburg and Malmö, leading to a reduction of 300 jobs MatHem 2024-SE. The company's prolonged economic difficulties and targets of profitability for 2026 have led to an additional 100 employees being notified of layoffs in May 2025 Mathem 2025-SE. These reductions concern both warehouse workers, drivers and white-collar staff.
Mathem has about 1,500 employees in Sweden, of whom approximately 300 work at the warehouse in Larsboda. Mathem has, since 2023, been part of the Norwegian Oda Group.
