Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

Diehl Defence, a German defence industry company, is creating around 150 new jobs at the Spreewerk Lübben site (Brandenburg) by resuming the production of ammunition components. Most of the new jobs will be created in production. Production will start in summer 2025 with around 60 employees and is set to be fully expanded by 2027.
The new jobs will be created due to the growing demand for components for the Bundeswehr; only individual parts and fuses will be produced, not operational ammunition.
The citizens' initiative ‘Unser Lübben’ (Our Lübben) protested against the project with 1,600 signatures due to safety and environmental concerns, while the majority of mayors and employees welcome the development.
Diehl Defence took over the plant in 2024 together with the Tauber Group. The Spree plant had been part of the German defence industry since the 1940s, most recently (2019-2024) used for battery recycling.
