Description

Frost-trol, a long-standing industrial refrigeration manufacturer based in Cabanes (Castellón), has dismissed its entire workforce of 133 employees and is now heading towards insolvency proceedings, after more than six decades of activity. According to the union UGT, the company, which once employed over 500 people, has been struggling financially since 2021 due to an internal fraud that led to losses of approximately €14 million.

The redundancy plan (ERE), now fully executed, provides affected workers with severance pay of 28 days per year worked, capped at 15 months, mirroring a previous adjustment made in late 2024. Although Frost-trol had hoped to sell its productive unit to an investor—initially considering staggered dismissals to preserve options for rehiring in the event of a successful transaction—no agreement has been finalised to date. Nevertheless, union sources have indicated that a sale could still take place, either before or during the insolvency process, potentially opening the door to a partial revival
