Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

The German supermarket chain Lidl has announced the opening of six new supermarkets in Spain in June 2025, following an investment of €30 million. These openings will generate 115 stable, high-quality jobs across the Basque Country, Galicia, Madrid, and the Valencian Community, adding 8,700 square metres of retail space to the company’s portfolio. Each new store will offer Lidl’s extensive range of fresh produce, refrigerated and packaged goods, beverages, cosmetics, cleaning products, and regional specialities, as well as weekly international food promotions.
The first store will open on 6 June in Vitoria-Gasteiz, becoming the retailer’s fifth outlet in the city, followed by a new supermarket in Culleredo (A Coruña) on 13 June. Two further openings will take place in Leganés (Madrid) on 13 and 20 June, while Alfafar (Valencia) and Calpe (Alicante) will see new stores launched on 20 and 27 June respectively. These openings form part of Lidl’s broader strategy to support local economies and expand its regional presence across Spain.
