Description

Carrefour, a French retail chain, has announced plans to open 100 new supermarkets in Spain in 2025, aiming to surpass 1,600 outlets nationwide and generating over 700 full-time jobs. Approximately 95% of these new stores will operate under the Carrefour Express banner, with most managed by franchisees. This expansion builds on a consistent growth trajectory: from 2019 to 2024, the company opened 691 new locations, invested over €150 million, and created 3,500 jobs.

So far this year, Carrefour has inaugurated 46 stores and expects to reach its target in the second half of the year. Carrefour currently operates around 1,500 stores in Spain, including over 200 hypermarkets and nearly 1,100 Express supermarkets. Its diversified retail strategy encompasses various formats—hypermarkets, convenience stores, and unique locations such as gas stations, train stations, and tourist hubs.

Following the 2024 integration of 47 Supercor stores acquired from El Corte Inglés, Carrefour continues to consolidate its position as a leader in Spanish retail, with annual sales exceeding €10.8 billion.

In 2018, Carrefour already experienced a business expansion process, resulting in the creation of 120 new jobs Carrefour 2019-ES
