Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

JIP-Papírny Větřní, a traditional major Czech paper mill producing barrier and wrapping papers for multinational e-shops, food industry and fast-food chains, has announced the cessation of production and the layoff of 200 people by the end of September 2025. The company has been insolvent since 2013 and according to the insolvency administrator, operations are no longer sustainable.
The main reason is primarily the economic recession in the European Union countries, where the company exports the main part of its production, and the corresponding decrease in demand. On the other hand, energy prices are high in the Czech Republic. The costs of gas and electricity represent over 50 per cent of the total price of the product.
