Description
Duro Felguera, the Spanish engineering and capital goods group, has formally announced an employment redundancy file (ERE) that will result in the dismissal of 249 employees, approximately 17.8% of its total workforce of 1,400. The measure affects five of the group’s companies with operations in Asturias, Madrid, Cartagena, Las Palmas, Huelva, and Tarragona.
The negotiation table for the ERE was constituted on 12 July at the headquarters of the Servicio Asturiano de Solución Extrajudicial de Conflictos (Sasec), following a previous failed attempt due to disagreements among union representatives. Further negotiation sessions have been scheduled for 24, 29, and 31 July.
The affected subsidiaries include DFSA, DFOM, DF Energy Storage, DF Intelligent Systems, and DF Green Tech, with operations distributed across multiple regions. The announcement comes shortly after the company secured a second extension of its pre-insolvency proceedings, now extended until 31 July, to finalise a restructuring plan aimed at ensuring long-term viability and preserving as many jobs as possible.
At the last shareholders' meeting, the company president defended the implementation of "tough measures" as essential steps within the broader restructuring strategy, reaffirming the goal of exiting pre-insolvency and laying the foundations for recovery. The ERE is part of that process, amidst ongoing legal and financial challenges, including unresolved litigation related to a project in Algeria.
The company previously announced several restructuring processes in 2022 Duro Felguera 2022-ESand 2018Duro Felguera 2018-ES, affecting 180 and 100 workers, respectively.
Updated, 8/8/2025
Duro Felguera reached an agreement last 7 August 2025 with the negotiating committee regarding the ERE file, which will ultimately affect 180 employees, as opposed to the initially planned 249. Furthermore, the company has improved the minimum severance conditions included in the adjustment, now offering 24 days’ pay per year of service, capped at 12 months' salary.
