European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
As announced on 8 September 2025, the U.S. automotive supplier BorgWarner plans to cut 345 jobs in Germany at its sites in Darmstadt and Langen. This includes 120 positions at the Battery Technology Center and 225 in the plant operations division. The reductions are planned to be finalised by January 2026. Currently, 800 people work at the sites.
The company cites the strained market situation and declining orders from major clients such as Daimler Truck and Volvo as reasons for the cuts. Employees have been informed of the layoffs, and the IG Metall union has announced its intention to resist the job cuts.
BorgWarner employs 38,000 people worldwide.
