Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
EINSA Print, a Spanish printing company located in As Pontes (A Coruña), presented an employment redundancy file (ERE) affecting 102 workers. The matter is being taken to brought to Court next 23 October, after employee representatives challenged the validity of the dismissals.
According to employee representatives, Einsa Print is dismantling its printing machinery, with only around 25 workers remaining for maintenance and administrative duties (under the ERE terms, these workers are also scheduled to be dismissed by March 2026). Unions have accused the company of orchestrating a fraudulent closure, citing the withdrawal from the Business Tax Register during the consultation period as evidence of premeditated intent. Unions have vowed to continue its protests until the ERE is declared invalid.
