Description

Ryanair, the Irish low-cost airline, announced the withdrawal of three aircraft from Vienna, leading to the cancellation of flights to Billund, Santander, and Tallinn, as well as further route reductions. This downsizing is attributed to the high Austrian air traffic tax (€12 per passenger) and elevated airport fees, creating a competitive disadvantage compared with other international markets. Around 100 employees at Vienna are expected to be affected, although details on direct dismissals or redeployment are not specified. The Vienna Airport and Austrian authorities are monitoring the situation, while Austrian Airlines plans to expand short-haul capacity in 2026. Ryanair Holdings plc is the parent group.
