Description

Lidl, the large German supermarket chain, has inaugurated a major new logistics centre in Martorell, near Barcelona, which is set to create up to 400 new jobs in the coming months. The facility began operations on 29 September with only half of the planned workforce in place, and recruitment will continue as the centre scales up its supply operations.

Initially serving around 30 stores across Catalonia and Aragón, the centre will progressively expand its reach to 130 Lidl locations, eventually supplying outlets in Navarra and the Balearic Islands as well.

The warehouse is located in the Can Xàmenes industrial estate, an important strategic hub in Barcelona’s metropolitan area. The warehouse spans more than 66,000 square metres and features 144 loading bays, the capacity to handle 120,000 pallets per month, and a solar panel installation covering over 5,800 m², which will generate up to 30% of its energy needs. With a €140 million investment, this represents Lidl’s largest logistics commitment in Spain to date.

The company did experience similar expansion situations in 2020Lidl 2020-ES, 2022 Lidl 2022-ESand 2025Lidl 2025-ES, with an employment creation of 130, 200 and 115 jobs, respectively.
