Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Municipality of Bologna will hire 100 new local police officers, with the first 50 arriving in October and remaining 50 in March 2026. The municipality is establishing a Historic Center Unit deploying 40 officers exclusively within city walls, with headquarters at Palazzo d'Accursio, supplementing 15 existing staff managing City Council operations, health emergencies, permit issuance, and night/holiday surveillance.
Security Councillor explained the historic center constitutes a distinct neighborhood requiring specialized attention beyond peripheral areas, despite administrative division between Santo Stefano and Porto-Saragozza districts. The Navile district, particularly Bolognina, will also see significant reinforcement from 34 to 60 officers by March, with initial increase to 50 in October.
Mayor emphasized the recruitment represents unprecedented scale following 60 hires last year, rejuvenating the force while creating two new units for measurable urban improvement.
