Description

The Centro Tecnológico de la Automoción de Galicia (CTAG), an automotive research centre, has announced a restructuring plan (ERE) that includes the dismissal of 150 employees (around 15% of its workforce) and a temporary layoff (ERTE) of up to 110 working days that could potentially affect the entire staff. The foundation, which employs 893 people across its main site in O Porriño and various partner companies, attributes the move to a sharp decline in activity and income, with revenues down more than 15% in 2025 due to the loss of key innovation projects.

This marks the third wave of layoffs at CTAG in recent months, following disciplinary and objective dismissals in July and early September. Unions have condemned the latest proposal as unjustified, warning of structural decline and calling for greater commitment from CTAG's founding members (including Stellantis, Zona Franca, Abanca, and the Galician Government) whom they accuse of outsourcing functions previously entrusted to the centre.

Negotiations will continue into early November. Unions have criticised the foundation’s lack of transparency and strategic direction, warning that the project’s long-term viability is at risk
