Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Hartmann-Rico, operating in the medical device market, has announced to close its plant in Havlíčkův Brod by the end of March 2026. The closure will affect 200 people, 50 of whom work in the Sanicare sheltered workshop. The production of special surgical masks at the Havlíčkův Brod site faces strong market pressure to reduce production costs due to products coming from Asian countries.
Hartmann-Rico operates two other plants in the Czech Republic. These two plants will not be affected by the layoffs or closure. The company employs almost 1,600 people across the Czech Republic.
The Czech subsidiary is part of the international Hartmann group, headquartered in Heidenheim, Germany, which employs approximately 10,000 people in 37 countries around the world.
