Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Workday, a US cloud-software company specialising in HR and payroll management solutions, has announced a €175 million investment to establish a new AI Centre of Excellence in Dublin. The expansion will create 200 highly skilled jobs over the next three years, in areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity and software engineering.
The company currently employs 2,200 people in Ireland, primarily in product research and development. Workday opened its EMEA headquarters in Dublin in 2015 and in 2023 it opened a second Irish office in Dublin.
Earlier in 2025, Workday implemented global restructuring measures that resulted in around 1,700 job cuts (8.5% of its worldwide workforce),seeWorkday 2025 - IE as the company reoriented its strategy towards AI-based solutions.
