Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
MD will create approximately 180 jobs through its 2025-2026 expansion plan opening 16 new discount stores across Italy. The discount chain launched three stores since September 2025 in Milan, San Cipriano d'Aversa, and Palermo, with Trecate (Novara) opening November 27.
Simultaneous restructuring improved existing locations in San Benedetto del Tronto, Nardò, Vieste, Atessa, and Bolzano, standardizing service and enhancing shopping experiences. The national development program spanning North to South Italy will manage new structures through direct operation and affiliate franchise systems.
Some hiring has already occurred for recent openings, though majority of positions will activate alongside stores launching through 2026. Current recruitment spans over 40 positions across Italian regions, primarily seeking deputy store managers, store managers, butchery and produce department staff, shipping and logistics personnel, plus sales associates from protected categories.
Typical profiles include sales assistants, department staff, cashiers, shipping personnel, maintenance workers, store managers, and deputy managers.
