Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Erich Jaeger, a German-owned manufacturer of electrical wiring systems for the automotive industry, has announced the dismissal of around 150 employees at its Kopřivnice plant in the Moravian-Silesian region of the Czech Republic. The restructuring is driven by the sale of the 27,000 m² facility and the relocation of production activities to Moldova, with machinery already being removed from the site and the remaining workforce placed on full-wage standby
Job losses will be implemented through mass redundancies notified to the Labour Office, while the remaining employees face uncertainty as the plant is expected to be fully vacated by mid-2026.
Erich Jaeger, which operates as part of a German parent group headquartered in Friedberg and employs around 300 people, generated sales of CZK 1.13 billion (€47 million) in 2023, ending the year with a loss of CZK 5.4 million (€224 thousand).
