Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
ING, a Dutch bank operating in the financial services sector, has announced plans to eliminate 124 jobs in Luxembourg. Two branches in Esch-sur-Alzette and Ettelbruck will close by 30 November 2025, along with the restructuring of other branches to unfold through the end of 2026.
The cuts target its retail banking and customer-service units in the country. The bank is restructuring to refocus on its private-banking and wholesale-banking activities, moving away from the retail banking services that have become less profitable. This shift is aimed at streamlining operations and prioritising high-margin business lines.
The union ALEBA, a trade‑union representative body, is engaged in negotiations with ING’s management.
ING is a Dutch-based bank that reported 924 employees in 2024 after a reduction from 966 the previous year and serves roughly 21,000 retail customers, leaving only the Strassen and Luxembourg-gare branches open.
