Description

The German silicon manufacturer RW Silicium in Pocking (Bavaria) will close on 31 December 2025. The closure affects all 110 employees, who have already received termination notices.

The reasons cited for the closure are high electricity prices in Germany, which have tripled since 2022, declining demand amid the German industrial crisis, and strong price pressure from low-cost silicon, particularly from China.

RW Silicium announced to initiate talks concerning the closing procedure and prospects for the dismissed workers.

The company is part of AMG Critical Materials and was the last silicon producer in Germany. Most recently, only one of four furnaces was still running, and employees were on short-time work
