European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
AirTight, a company specializing in pressure sensors for buildings to prevent drafts and heat leakage, shifted its production from a Chinese factory to Halden after a misinterpretation of a design change by the Chinese supplier, leading to 2500 unusable parts. Following the relocation, all stages of AirTight's production are now concentrated between Horten and Halden in Norway. The initiative aims to enhance efficiency, save time, and mitigate challenges related to language and cultural differences when collaborating with local suppliers. The company recognizes Norway's higher labor costs, but achieved economic sustainability by focusing on process efficiency and expertise, such as eliminating screws from the AirTight sensor to save production time and costs.
