Description
The 130 job losses at Refond were caused by a fire which destroyed the textile plant. Managment told workers they had no future with the company, as the plant will not be re-opening or re-locating.
There was also a fire at former rugs factory Peerless Rugs, which closed in July 2001 with the loss of 65 jobs, and production was transferred to the Refond plant in Cork.
