European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The high street retailer Boots today announced the loss of 850 jobs as it halted its laser eye correction, dentistry, chiropody and laser hair removal services. These new closures also include plans to drop most of its 54 dental practices, at locations including Reading, Bolton, Bournemouth, Manchester and York, by the end of the year. These cuts are in addition to the January 2004 staff at Boot's head office in Nottingham who lost their jobs and the 2,200 job losses in 2003. However, Boots, which employs 60,000 people, has plans to open around 60 new stores and add around 3,000 jobs in the year 2004-2005.
