European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
German household goods maker Leifheit AG plans to reduce its production in Germany, relocating capacities abroad, the company said on 2 December 2004. Leifheit will cut 360 jobs by the end of 2005 and plans to close the production of consumer scales. The site location in Nassau, western Germany, and the plant in Zuzenhausen, southwestern Germany, will be transformed into logistics centres. Production will partly be shifted to a Leifheit factory in the Czech Republic, where 80 jobs will be created. Some lines will be given up completely and will instead be sourced from East Asia. Leifheit has seen its turnover shrink since 2002 and wants to turn the tide with its cost-cutting measures. Competition from Asia and the strong Euro left no other choice, as chairman of the board Hans-Georg Franke said.
