European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Hewlett Packard is to establish its strategic centre for global services in Bulgaria in the coming two years, announced Mrs. Sasha Bezuhanova, General manager of the company in Bulgaria and Mr. Justin Young manager at the Global delivery unit of HP. The centre will provide services to manage the IT infrastructure of clients and partners in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Around 1,000 people will be hired in the next two years. ‘We’ll be hiring a balanced mix of experienced experts and specialists as well as beginners, mainly in the field of computer sciences and IT’, said Mr. Young. Bulgaria was selected among 14 candidates, among them Russia, Romania and Ukraine. The main reasons evoked for Bulgaria’s choice is the extremely high quality of the working force in the field of information technologies and services, said Mr. Young. The evaluation team has also taken into account the university programmes in the IT sphere and the number of graduated students. It shows that there is a wave of constant working force coming on the labour market and this is important for HP, as we are having a long-term strategy for development in countries like Bulgaria, Mr. Young added. In 2005, HP had announced a major worldwide restructuring resulting in the loss of 14,500 jobs.
