European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla) is preparing a programme aiming at a substantial reduction of personnel. Employees' representative estimated that this would affect a total of 150 persons. Metla employs a total of 874 persons at the moment.
The reason for such a programme is the governments policy to cut down financing for research institutions in general. In Metlas case it means a cut of a total of several million euros. Chief director Hannu Raitio says that the job cuts cannot be conducted through natural wastage, because noticeable retirement will not begin until year 2011. Therefore the staff reduction must be taken into account in financial planning for years 20072011.
