European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Sykehuset Innlandet (Innlandet Hospital Trust) is part of the state owned Helse Øst (Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority). The trust consists of eight hospitals in addition to local psychiatric and somatic services in Hedmark and Oppland counties and is responsible for the provision of these services to 390,000 inhabitants.
As it is the case with most hospital trusts, Sykehuset Innlandet struggles with deficits and demands for cost cuts. In 2006 it had a deficit of 70 million NOK, and to meet the demand from Parliament for budget balance, the Board decided on its meeting on 14 December 2006 to cut costs of 216 million NOK in 2007. To achieve this goal, the workforce will be reduced by total 199 man-years in the hospitals. The Board says in its resolution that it regrets the decision but it is necessary because of lack of resources from the state.
The total number of workers today is 8,427 according to Sykehuset Innlandet. Out of these 2,294 are temporary workers.
The unions protested loudly against the cuts and the employee representatives in the Board voted against the resolution. The unions also arranged a demonstration on the day of the Board meeting.
Nothing is said about how the workforce reduction will be done, but dismissals are not anticipated.
